If you like Piña Coladas and Getting Caught In The Rain, then you'll be glad to know that Alloy Entertainment is partnering with singer-songwriter Rupert Holmes on a feature adaptation of his iconic 1979 hit single, "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)". It’s no surprise that the premise of “Escape” focuses on a singles ad placed by a woman in search of a relationship, and a man who read the classifieds and answers the ad. Holmes is reportedly involved, and the Alloy team is reportedly searching out writers to complete the script of the storied single. "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" was written and performed by Rupert Holmes, released on his fifth studio album Partners in Crime. The single reached # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1979 and remained #1 into January 1980 until being knocked out of the top by the single "Please Don't Go" by KC and the Sunshine Band.
"Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" became the 11th best-selling single of 1980, according to Billboard Magazine.

She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie". She was present in the crowd last week in Florida during Woods game against Rory McIlroy on Jan. 27. The Grammys were broadcast live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+. The newly enacted tariffs being imposed by the US on Mexico, Canada, and China are already impacting small and independent musicians on everything from music instruments to streaming and distribution. Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC, or simply Fender) is the largest guitar manufacturer in the world. Through the years, many prominent rock musicians have been associated with the Fender Stratocaster for use in studio recording and live performances, most notably Eric Clapton, Buddy Holly, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson, John Frusciante, Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Beck. Fender produces versions of its Stratocaster in five different locations: California, Mexico, Japan, Indonesia, and China. It's estimated that around 15% of the USA Fender Stratocaster is actually imported. The woodworking and assembly are all done in the U.S.A., but many parts are imported from Asia or other. Mexican-made and Chinese-made Stratocasters could be subject to 25% tariffs from day 1 of the Trump administration These Stratocasters use similar components as American made Stratocasters but use foreign wage differentials to offer U.S. Consumers high-quality instruments at a much lower price point. Various Mexican and Chinese made Stratocaster models range from $200 to $1,200, while the price of American made Stratocasters begin at $1,300 and up.
With the imposition of the new 25% tariffs, consumers can expect the price of Mexican and Chinese made Stratocaster models range to increase to $250 to $1500. "The hardest-hit consumers of the 25% increase will be lower-income households and school music programs that rely on the supply of relatively inexpensive instruments," according to Cullen S. Hendrix, a senior economic research member at the Peterson Institute of International Economics (PIIE) in Washington, DC. Brass, woodwind, and stringed instrument prices are also expected to increase because of the tariffs. Tariffs are also set to increase for both the creators and customers. Music licensing tariffs are expected to affect the price of licensing fees with ANDI, the National Association of Performers (or Asociación Nacional De Intérpretes in Spanish), based in Mexico, from $1,000 to $1,250. Also expected to increase is the price of licensing fees with SOCAN, the Copyright Board of Canada, from $400 to $500. The effect of these newly imposed tariffs on music instruments and music licensing present new challenges for independent artists and creators to maintain their livelihood and financial stability in an already volatile landscape that has left many independent artists and creators struggling to cover basic expenses through music alone. A spokesperson for the singer and actress confirmed the news in a statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.” She first achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single "As Tears Go By", the first song ever written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States. In addition to her music career, Faithfull had a career as an actress in theatre, television and film. She landed a starring role in the 1968 film The Girl On A Motorcycle. Faithfull was noted for her distinctive voice; her melodic and high-registered vocals prevailed during her 1960s career, but these were altered by severe laryngitis coupled with persistent drug abuse during the 1970s, which left her voice permanently raspy, cracked and lower in pitch. This new sound was praised as "whisky soaked" by some critics and seen as having helped to capture the raw emotions expressed in Faithfull's music. After a long commercial absence, Faithfull made a comeback with the 1979 release of her critically acclaimed seventh studio album Broken English. The album was a commercial success and marked a resurgence of her musical career. Broken English earned Faithfull a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and is often regarded as her "definitive recording". She followed this with a series of studio albums, including Dangerous Acquaintances (1981), A Child's Adventure (1983) and Strange Weather (1987). Faithfull wrote three books about her life: Faithfull: An Autobiography (1994), Memories, Dreams & Reflections (2007) and Marianne Faithfull: A Life on Record (2014). In 1999, Faithfull was ranked 25th on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll. Faithful had previously suffered multiple health problems, including bulimia, breast cancer and emphysema caused by decades of smoking. In 2020, she contracted Covid-19 and was hospitalized for 22 days. Doctors said they did not expect her to survive - but she pulled through, releasing her 21st album, She Walks in Beauty, a year later. Marianne Faithfull was previously married to Giorgio Della Terza (1988 - 1991), Ben Brierly (1979 - 1986) and John Dunbar (1965 - 1966) and had significant relationships with both Mick Jagger and David Bowie. Jayden Daniels has been nothing short of amazing in his first season as the Washington Commanders quarterback. He led the team to a 12-5 record and won playoff games on the road, leading Washington back to their first NFC title game since 1991.
The rookie quarterback and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner with the LSU Tigers set a number of NFL and franchise rookie passing records. On Sunday, the San Bernardino, California native and Cajon High School alumni set another record during his first postseason run. Daniels, who already held the league record for most completions by a rookie QB in the postseason, came into the game with 567 yards, trailing Russell Wilson's 2012 record by only five yards. On the Commanders' first drive against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game on Sunday, Daniels surpassed Russell Wilson for the most playoff passing yards by a rookie in NFL history. Jayden Daniels did his best, completing 29 of 48 passes for 255 yards and two total touchdowns, but fell just short of becoming the first rookie quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders in the NFC Conference Championship game, winning 55-23, and are headed to Super Bowl LIX to face the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the second time the Eagles and Chiefs will compete for the Vince Lombardi trophy. They played in Super Bowl LVII, with the Chiefs winning 38-35.. After his magical playoff run, Washington fans are looking ahead to a brighter future with Jayden Daniels as their starting quarterback. Jayden Daniels was also selected for the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, his rookie season being regarded among the greatest in NFL history. Their tour spans a total of 24 dates and features Soft Cell and Modern English with dates scheduled at Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA; Moody Center in Austin, TX; Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD; The Mann Center in Philadelphia, PA; and Centre Bell in Montreal, QC and other major cities.

As a solo performer, he achieved notable success with the singles “Walk It Out” and “2 Step” in 2006, with the former attaining a peak position of #2 and the latter reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart.
After experiencing unspecified health concerns, the Atlanta-based rapper slowed down his career activities. While a cause of death has not been revealed, it's been reported that in August 2009, Unk suffered a heart attack, something the rapper blamed on a combination of nonstop touring, poor eating habits, and drinking and smoking. |
